1. Group Purchasing
1. 现在团购很流行； 2. 团购有很多好处，但也有不少问题； 3. 我的建议
In recent years, a new type of online shopping is rapidly gaining popularity — group purchasing, which was originally introduced from foreign countries but is now widely accepted all over China. People can buy not only goods, but also all kinds of services on group purchasing sites.
Group purchasing is very convenient, and saves people a lot of money. But it also has some problems. Since group purchasing is nothing more than another form of online shopping, the nature of it is no different from other online shopping patterns. Problems that exist in online shopping also can be found in group purchasing, like deceptive advertisements or poor after-sale services.
In my opinion, we should treat group purchasing as a way of shopping and nothing more. We must be careful not to buy something we don’t need only to follow the fashion.
2. On Events of Network Public Opinion
On Events of Network Public Opinion
Do you still remember the “Guo Meimei Scandal” which has aroused national fury and mistrust toward Red Cross Society of China in 2011? However, it was just a start of the influence of network public opinion of China in changing the society. Now, nearly every day or two, there will be a new event heatedly commented by Chinese netizens through online facilities.
Actually, network public opinion is the co-product of the interaction between two factors. For one thing, the highly developed internet has brought the explosion of information to everybody’s life. Each piece of information can potentially be an “event”. For another thing, democratic consciousness has grown stronger in minds of Chinese people. Network is the democratic outlet where their free speech can be fully realized.
Now, network public opinion has become the constructive power for a better society, which has been acknowledged by all levels of governments. With overwhelming influence and massive power, it will help a lot in constructing Chinese social equity, including improving Chinese democracy, promoting anti-corruption; bring in judicial fairness, and etc.
3. Green Consumption
The conception of green consumption has gradually become popular in China. More and more green foods are making their appearance on the market and more and more people are becoming conscious of environmental protection.
However, there still exist quite a few difficulties in the further promotion of green consumption. On the one hand, many people are still not quite clear of the advantages of green foods. On the other hand, due to high profits, many fake green foods are found in the market. Moreover, many consumers don’t want to pay extra money for green foods.
There may be several ways to solve these problems. Firstly, the government should supervise the good quality strictly to protect consumers’ interests. Secondly, the conception of green consumption should be further promoted and emphasized. Thirdly, the government should work together with manufacturers to make the price more reasonable.
4. On Privacy of Famous People
On Privacy of Famous People
In recent years, many newspapers and magazines focus on the activities of film stars, pop singers and some other celebrities. Reporters disguise their identities, infiltrate the subject’s business and family, or even bug and wiretap them to get the news by whatever means.
It is not difficult to explain the reason for the reporters’ great interest in celebrities’ private lives. What matters to a newspaper or a magazine is the number of readers. A large readership means the rise in the circulation of their publications, hence a huge profit. Since celebrities are newsworthy figures, and their stories draw far more attention than those of ordinary people, it is natural that the press tries to feature private lives of celebrities.
In my view, famous people are also citizens. They have the right to keep their own privacy like ordinary people — their privacy should be respected, protected and guaranteed by laws under all circumstances. Therefore, the press should stop invading their privacy.
5. Dishonesty in Tourism
Dishonesty in Tourism
Since 1980s, the economy of China has developed greatly. With more money in their pockets, people are spending more money on travelling, which has brought prosperity to tourism. Nevertheless, many travel agencies or agents are reported to cheat their customers and make money in a dishonest way.
The reason for dishonesty in tourism is various. First and for most, money is the spur. Some travel agencies use all means to cheat their customers in order to get more money. Secondly, to survive in the fierce competition, travel agencies have to make enough profits. To realize profit maximization, they cheat. Last but not least, their victims seem to have little sense of defending their rights.
To regulate travel agencies and protect the rights of tourists, the government has issued various laws. However, I think tourists can take the following tips to avoid travel scams. First, choose a trustworthy travel agency for your trip. Secondly, use your common sense and keep alert while travelling. Finally, defend yourself if your rights are violated.
6. Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Post-holiday Syndrome Among Students. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below.
Post-holiday Syndrome Among Students
With the gloomy prospect of returning to school, many students could suffer from post-holiday syndrome, which refers to a general feeling of depression before returning to campus life, which is caused by irregular lifestyles during the holiday. Symptoms include fatigue, lack of appetite and concentration, irritability and a feeling of helplessness.
Various reasons can account for it. But most important of all, a large number of students tend to overindulge themselves in eating, merrymaking and playing around during the holidays, which makes it difficult to adjust to their routine study schedule and life pace on the campus.
My suggestions to deal with this syndrome are as follows. First, exercising and sticking to a normal schedule over the holidays will make a difference and nip post-holiday syndrome in the bud. Besides, it pays to return a few days earlier before the semester starts. The early return seems to have kept the holiday blues at bay.
7. Due Attention Should Be Given to Speaking
Due Attention Should Be Given to Speaking
Nowadays fewer and fewer students pay attention to their spoken English, which results in a dramatic increase in the number of students who can spell English words but are incapable of speaking them fluently or correctly. This phenomenon has aroused many people’s attention.
Why does such a phenomenon emerge? As far as I’m concerned, there are possibly two reasons contributing to this phenomenon. On the one hand, exam-oriented education makes many schools lay emphasis on passing the English exams, which leads to the lack of speaking environment for students to practice their spoken English. On the other hand, students themselves don’t realize the importance of the ability to speak English which has a great influence on their future study and career development.
To change this situation, I think, we can take the following measures. First, the importance of oral English should be emphasized to raise students’ awareness of the necessity of speaking English. Second, exams should be modified to make students pay attention to their spoken English. Third, schools can organize various activities to arouse students’ interest in speaking English.
8. Free Admission to Parks
Free Admission to Parks
To encourage people to go outside and relax, a mounting number of parks offer free admission now. People benefit from it, especially during these tough economic times. With free entry, more people will have the opportunity for affordable vacations for families, taking pleasure in the natural landscape.
Fresh air and landscapes in parks are good for people. However, too many people flocking into parks might not be so good for the parks.
For example, some visitors leave their garbage behind, which may cause environmental pollution. And people’s barbeques and stamping will also bring damage to the grassland and other greeneries in parks.
As a university student, I’m in favor of free admission to parks. Free entry to parks not only saves people’s expenditure, but also makes things fairer — people like the poor and students can go to parks frequently as well. On the other hand, visitors should be informed to preserve the environment while enjoying the beauty of the nature.
9. College Students’Living Condition
College Students’Living Condition
Recently, the living condition of some college students is frequently referred to as “dwelling-narrowness”. In fact, this embarrassing situation is very serious that few of us can fail to meditate on the causes of it.
In the first place, it’s difficult for graduates to bear the high cost of life in big cities. Poor payment thus gives rise to bad living conditions. Next, college students are more ambitious. Many of them are eager to compete in big cities like Shanghai and Beijing, where talents are abundant and positions are limited. Refusing to go back hometown let them suffer in big cities, which indirectly make their situation worse.
Generally speaking, college students should be more qualified to better themselves and adjust their goals according to the reality.
10 Should we help others in need?
Should we help others in need?
Helping others has always been a virtue in traditional Chinese culture. But what’s strange nowadays is that people dare not show their helping hands to those in need. I would like to elaborate my views on this issue.
Firstly, I think people’s moral sense has degraded. When egoism gains the upper hand, many people find it growingly hard to help others. Secondly, there is no denying that some tragic events turn out to be traps by people with evil intentions. So common people are becoming more risk-conscious and are more wary of traps and deceits.
In general, I contend the idea that we should be warm-hearted and offer help as well as look out for potential hazards so as not to be deceived.
11. You should write an email in reply to a friend’s inquiry about whether you are going to work or continue your study after graduation .You should also explain the reasons behind your choice.
A Letter of Reply
Dear Li Ming，
I’m very glad to hear from you. Concerning my plan after graduation，I will probably continue my study as a postgraduate.
I have the following reasons. First of all，a higher degree and better educational background will give me an edge on the fierce competition of job-hunting because the fact that millions of college students enter the job market annually makes it difficult for US to find the job we want. Besides，as far as I am concerned，knowledge is，undoubtedly, an invaluable treasure of human being，and we should make full use of our youth to learn as much knowledge as possible. of course. staying in the Ivory Tower doesn’t suggest that l will be cut off from society; instead, I will get involved in social and practical activities in my spare time.
Taking all aspects into account. I choose to further my study and get a master’s degree.
Many thanks for your concern. Best wishes!
12 . On the Use of the ATM
On the Use of the ATM
ATM is not fresh to city residents. You can find at least one such machine in banks. And now, it is spreading in most rural areas of China. It is a common phenomenon for people to withdraw or deposit money through the ATM.
ATM has helped both bank clerks and their customers greatly. For one thing, it partly frees the clerks from heavy work. For another thing, it provides customers with more speedy and around-the-clock service. But, ATM can be imperfect. First of all, you can’t withdraw as much money as you want. Five thousand Yuan is the maximum sum you can get daily. Secondly, there are risks for customers who withdraw money from ATM. They may suffer losses from theft, robbery or their own carelessness.
I think the following tips can avoid most troubles. First, withdraw a large sum of money through bank clerk service. Secondly, make sure the place where ATM was installed is safe enough. Thirdly, keep secret of password and remember to get your card back. Finally, get a companion when you use ATM at night.
13 You should write a short essay based on the following question. Suppose you are going to prepare a gift for your mother’s birthday. What gift would you like to choose and why?
A Gift for My Mother
Recently I have been preparing a gift for my mother’s birthday. After much careful thinking，I finally find the gift that can bring her the most pleasure and satisfaction is nothing but me—-the apple in her eye.
As we know, there is nothing in the world that can approach a mother’s selfless love for her children. She can sacrifice everythin9，including her life，for their well-
being，while expecting little in return from them. However，she does have some expectations on them. For example，my mother hopes that I can find a good job，build a harmonious home，and live a happy and healthy life. So I believe that for my mother, the most happiness does not come from any material things，but from me，the one who tries to fulfill her expectations.
Therefore，the best gift for my mother’s birthday should be that I begin to take all the responsibilities that a son should assume. It is high time that I grew into a man that is patient，independent，responsible，obedient and helpful.
14 You should write a short essay on the topic Excess Spending on Campus.
Excess Spending on Campus
A recent survey indicates that the monthly expenditure of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students have no concept of thrift in their mind at all.
The following factors contribute to this excess spendin9.First of all. as the only child of theft families，many students are the apples in their families’eyes and naturally get move care and pocket money. Some are even spoiled and take spending money from their parents for granted. In addition，with the improvement of living standards，parents can also afford higher expenditure of their children. Moreover, some students like to pursue fashion and trends，which can be quite costly. Finally, campus love is another possible factor causing too much spending.
From my point of view，college students should learn to be thrifty. We should limit our expenditure on daily necessities but not buy whatever we want regardless of their prices. The habit of thrift can help US form fight values and is favorable to our future development.
